New Jersey Real Estate Appraisal Online Licensing

for an New Jersey Real Estate Appraisal License and to pas the certification exam.

New Jersey Appraisal State RequirementsGeneral Info
There are four levels of real estate appraiser licensing. They are:
Real Estate Appraiser Trainee (Apprentice Program)
State Licensed Appraiser
State Certified Residential License
State Certified General License
License and Certification Requirements Submit evidence that he/she is 18 years of age
Submit evidence of good moral character, as established by references from individuals, schools, and other records acceptable to the Board
Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
Must successfully completed the education requirements set forth by the Board
Must furnish documentation on forms provided by the Board which demonstrate the required real estate appraisal experience for each level
The certification and authorization form for criminal background check, as provided by the Board, a usable set of fingerprints taken on standard fingerprint cards by a State or municipal law enforcement agency and the payment check made payable to the Division of State Police S.B
Must pass a Real Estate Appraiser licensing examination
Education and Experience Requirements Each level must successfully complete the specified hours of approved real estate appraisal courses for each level of licensure, which includes at least 15 hours on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice(USPAP). The specified hours are:
75 hours for the Real Estate Appraiser Trainee classification including thirty hours of Basic Principles of Appraising.
90 hours for the Licensed Appraiser classification.
The classroom hours required for the licensed real estate appraiser may include the classroom hours required for the appraiser trainee.
120 hours for the certified residential classification.
The classroom hours required for the certified residential real estate appraiser may include the classroom hours required for the appraiser trainee or the licensed real estate appraiser.
180 hours for the certified general classification.
The classroom hours required for the certified general real estate appraiser may include the classroom hours required for the appraiser trainee, the licensed residential real estate appraiser, or the certified residential real estate appraiser.
All experience must be supported by documentation on forms provided by the Board.
A. There is no experience requirement for the New Jersey Real Estate Appraiser Trainee (Apprentice Program). This level is for individuals in the process of aquiring the appraisal experience required in order to be a licensed or certified appraiser.
B. Applicants for a licensed real estate appraiser license shall have a minimum of 2,000 hours of acceptable appraisal experience in no fewer than 24 months.
C. Applicants for a certified residential real estate appraiser license shall have a minimum of 2,500 hours of acceptable appraisal experience in no fewer than 24 months. Applicants must provide evidence of experience with two to four family properties.
D. Applicants for a certified general real estate appraiser license shall have a minimum of 3,000 hours of acceptable appraisal experience in no fewer than 30 months. At least 50 percent of the required experience must be in non-residential appraisal work.
Continuing Education:
Licensed or certified NJ real estate appraisers shall confirm on the renewal application that they have completed 28 hours of continuing education credit.
